Where the boats leave from
All Cayo Icacos tours depart from Villa Marina Fajardo or Puerto del Rey Marina, both in Fajardo on the east coast, 50 minutes east of San Juan and 20 minutes from Luquillo.
Option 1: Rental car (recommended)
Drive PR-26 east to PR-3 south to Fajardo. Easy 50 minute drive, marina parking $5 to $10 a day. Best for flexibility and combining with El Yunque or the bio bay.
Option 2: Rideshare or taxi
Uber and Lyft run $60 to $80 each way from San Juan to Fajardo. Taxis cost more. Practical if you do not want to drive but expensive round trip.
Option 3: Tour with hotel pickup
Some operators offer round trip transport from San Juan resorts for $30 to $50 per person. Convenient with no car. Pickup is around 7:30 to 8 am.
Nearby on the east coast
While in Fajardo, the El Yunque rainforest is 25 minutes away at elyunque.tours, and San Juan reef snorkeling is covered at snorkelingsanjuan.com.
Frequently asked questions
No. Every scheduled boat leaves from Fajardo or Ceiba on the east coast. A handful of operators sell hotel pickup from the San Juan area, but the boat itself still departs from a Fajardo marina.
Roughly an hour outside rush hour, on PR-26 then PR-3. Allow 90 minutes if you are leaving between 7 and 9 AM on a weekday or heading out on a Friday afternoon.
Yes, either by booking a tour that includes transport or by taking a rideshare out and arranging the return in advance. Do not assume you will find a ride at the marina at 4 PM.
It is technically possible since the rainforest is on the way, but it makes for a very long day. Most people who try it end up rushing the part they came for.
